3M Dual-Lock
3M’s adhesive backed Dual-Lok Fastener System is an effective means of securely attaching parts to the motorcycle without drilling mounting holes. Dual-Lok is made from an adhesive-backed flexible plastic which allows it to conform and adhere to curved surfaces.
Each half of a Dual-Lok fastener consists of rows of stems with hemispheres on top. When the two halves are pressed together (mated) the heads/hemispheres of each half slide past each other with an audible “Snap” and Interlock. Dual-Lok holds up much better to weather than Velcro-type hook and loop fasteners and holds parts to the bike more securely than Velcro. Dual-Lok adhesives are 3M’s V.H.B. (Very High Bond) adhesive which is designed for use on automotive paints without harming the finish.
Dual-Lok is available in several attachment densities, referred to as Attachments Per Inch, or A.P.I., which determines the holding power and ease of disengaging the Dual-Lok. In most applications we mate two different densities of Dual-Lok (400 API to 250 API), 400 API mated to the 250 API combines the best holding capability while it allows the Dual-Lok to be separated with the least wear.

Dual-Lock Care
Dual-Lok will only stick to a thoroughly clean, dry mounting surface, no wax, oil, bugs, etc. Clean the mounting areas with warm, soapy water, then rinse thoroughly, and dry thoroughly with a clean, dry cloth. Next, clean the mounting area with Isopropyl Alcohol and wipe dry with a clean, dry cloth. Do not let alcohol air dry as the contaminants, lifted by the alcohol, will settle back on the surface and contaminate the mounting adhesive. Whenever possible, it’s helpful to clamp the part to the bike and leave the clamps on overnight, or for at least 12 hours.
Inspect Dual-Lok Fasteners Periodically check all of the Dual-Lok fasteners for damage to the heads and stalks. Also, check the mounting adhesive to make sure that it is not pulling away from the mounting surface. If Dual-Lok is not secure, or if the stalks are worn or damaged, replace immediately. We recommend replacing the Dual-Lok every 12-18 months depending on how often parts have been taken on/off.
Removing Part attached with Dual-Lok Never remove parts when they are hot from sitting in direct sunlight or the bike has been covered in warm temps. Temperatures above 100° Fahrenheit soften the Dual-Lok adhesive making it susceptible to tearing or pulling free of the mounting surface if you try to disengage the Dual-Lok. Always grasp the part securely with both hands and jerk sharply away from the bike to disengage the Dual-Lok.
Re-Attaching Parts, engaging Dual-Lok Line up Dual-Lok attachments on part with attachments on bike, then push firmly on part at each Dual-Lok location until engagement is heard or felt.
