General Plastic Cleaning

It’s best to first soak the AeroScreen, HeadLight Cover, Wings, etc. with water to loosen bugs, tar, dried mud, etc. before washing. You can use a mild soap, such as Dawn dish washing solution and warm water or a cleaner made specifically for use on plastic.

We’ve had great success using Brillianize® Plastic Cleaner/Polish for both in-house production and personal use.  It leaves a lustrous shine that resists fogging, repels dust and resists finger prints.  The anti static and anti fog properties are also helpful on face shields.  Brillianize cleans and glazes in one step!

  • Never use Ammonia-based cleaners or harsh chemicals, detergents, or powdered cleansers. These can make the plastic brittle, “fog” or make the plastic semi-opaque.
  • Never wipe a dry windscreen or use paper towels. Doing either of these will scratch your windscreen. Use a clean, dry cloth, preferably a poly-cloth, old cloth diaper, or soft terry cloth hand towel.
  • Never use gas station squeegees or windshield cleaner! The squeegee will scratch the plastic and the cleaner can etch the plastic making it hazy and brittle.

Removing Scratches

Since our plastic doesn’t require a hardness coating, it’s very easy to polish without any special tools. Novus Scratch Removers are very effective with just a microfiber or soft cloth.  Novus Scratch Removers should not be used on coated plastics.

Novus #2 Fine Scratch Remover:  Removes fine scratches, haziness and abrasions. Removes damage instead of filling it in. Buffs out quickly. Seals with a coat of polish.

Novus #3 Heavy Scratch Remover: Removes most deep or heavy scratches and abrasions. Used when damage is too severe to be restored with #2 polish. Must be followed with #2 for final finishing and sealing.

Tar and Bug Removal

Never use ammonia-based cleaners, carb cleaners, gasoline or kerosene on AeroFlow plastic. Never allow brake fluid to come in contact with AeroFlow plastic. 3-M Corporation makes several Tar & Bug Removers for removing dried-on bugs or greasy stuff. Their “Adhesive Remover-Citrus Based” comes in a 5oz. and 18.5oz. aerosol container and their “Bug, Tar and Adhesive Remover” comes in a 1 quart squeeze container which is good for keeping in the garage.
